Repeat Burglary often within a year

A relatively large group of people whose homes have been burglarized become victims of a burglary again within a year. This is evident from figures from the Dutch Association of Insurers.
The impact of such a repeat burglary is significant. A home burglary is seen as a so-called 'high impact crime'. If something like this happens more than once in a row, it will have a very negative impact on your sense of safety.
Three reasons why burglars come back to the same address:
•The criminals know the place.
They have previously observed the house and know when the residents are not at home, how they can get in, what a house looks like from the inside and what to look out for in the event of a burglary.
•Sometimes they come back for the remaining valuables.
During the first burglary, the burglars saw items that they could no longer take with them, but wanted to have. If those items are valuable enough, they may decide to return and steal them again.
•In other cases, the criminals wait a while before returning.
They expect that after the first burglary the victims will have replaced the items that were previously stolen (computers, laptops) so that they can steal them again .
Neighbors are also targeted
You would think that people who have been burglarized would take measures to prevent a new burglary, such as installing an alarm system, camera security or better locks.
What we then see is that the neighbors of a house are true burglary, are also more at risk of a burglary in the subsequent period. The criminals then actually plan to strike at their previous target, but deviate because of an alarm or other security.
